Community Urged to Support Homelessness Awareness

November 12, 2009

Valley of the Sun United Way encouraged Valley residents to advocate for individuals experiencing homelessness by participating in Maricopa County’s Homelessness Awareness Week, Oct. 25-31. The week of activities promoting homelessness awareness culminated in a walk to the Capitol on Friday, Oct. 30.

The walk kicked off at Herberger Theater with remarks from Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox and was joined at the capitol by Arizona State Representative Chad Campbell, Jacki Taylor of the Arizona Coalition to End Homelessness and other community members and supporters.

Homeless Awareness Week was made possible by members of the Homelessness Awareness Coalition, a committed group of service providers, faith-based organizations and nonprofits dedicated to ending homelessness in Maricopa County. Valley of the Sun United Way regularly convenes coalition partners to maximize opportunities, raise awareness about homelessness and invite the public to take action.

Participation in Maricopa County Homelessness Awareness Week is just one way Valley of the Sun United Way is working to end hunger and homelessness in Maricopa County. Learn more at Hunger | Homelessness.
